Objective: To use theories and concepts in HR Management for a more effective school.
A successful school leader needs to examine and find ways to implement the theories and the concepts in human resources management relevant to the development and maintenance of a loyal, satisfied, and productive teaching staff and employees.
Human resources management practices affect staff retention, morale and transitions. Theories of employee motivation, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and withdrawal cognition will help a school leader focus on common organizational strategies and practices for retaining valuable human resources. The leader needs to know methods for assessing the causes of employee turnover and transfers, how to maximize the retention of good employees, how to design fair and effective layoff or reduction in force policies, and how to design and implement promotion, succession planning, and transfer programs in organizations.
Organizational Theory and Human Resources Management
Organization theory (OT) explores the ways by which firms organize themselves to reach their goals. Human resource management analyses individual and collective behaviors within organizations. In particular it studies the matchup between organizational goals and HMR policies. It opens two research paths:
Institutional Theory. Based on recent contributions in institutional theory, research avenues explore different ways of institutionalization i.e. role of institutional entrepreneurs, relationship between institutionalization and organizational change, etc. Different domains are under scrutiny, from cultural industries to festivals and from emerging technologies to project based organization.
Management of human resources analyses incentive schemes and their effects on performances in different contexts. It also studies ways of implementing changes in different organizational settings.
