Why use a blog as principal?

School leaders have a lot to give back to learning community. One way of this is to get out of traditional mindset by having a blog and hopefully inspire others to do the same.  School leaders need a blog to challenge their own thinking in order to continually grow into a transformational leader.  They need to blog to be more transparent, brag about their students and staff while providing examples of innovation.
I set up this blog to help educators develop a better understanding of human resources management. I hope it will increase communication and thinking about the topics in human resources management and school leadership.

About me

My name is Ayhan Caputlu.
I believe that sound human resources leadership has a direct impact on school's instructional effectiveness. Correct decisions about teacher selection, induction, evaluation, and growth and development can contribute to improved student achievement.

Human Resources: What are the Functions and Position?

HR Functions and Positions
Objective: Define the major functions and of Human resources department in an organization.

Humans are an organization's greatest assets; without them, everyday business functions communicating through all forms of stakeholders, and dealing with parents, teachers and students could not be completed.

Humans and the potential they possess drive a school organization. Today's organizations are continuously changing. Organizational change in a school impacts not only the school but also its employees. In order to maximize organizational effectiveness, human potential—individuals' capabilities, time, and talents—must be managed. Human resource management works to ensure that employees are able to meet the school's goals.

Define the Role of Line Manager and Staff Specialist. Where is the line?

Objective: To clearly define the difference between the role of line managers and staff specialists.
Line managers have the formal power to direct and control immediate subordinates.
Staff specialist: Job duties are narrower than line managers and include the right to advise, recommend, and counsel in the staff specialists' area of expertise. It is a communication relationship with management. It has an influence that derives indirectly from line authority at a higher level and takes a human resource manager as an instance
A Human Resources manager has line authority over the staff of the HR department and staff authority to support, assist, and advise mangers of other Departments in matters related to HR management.

Major Elements of the HR program

MAJOR ELEMENTS OF THE HR PROGRAM
Human resources planning is a process that identifies current and future human resources needs for an organization to achieve its goals. Human resources planning should serve as a link between human resources management and the overall strategic plan of an organization.

The planning processes of best practice organizations not only define what will be accomplished within a given timeframe, but also the numbers and types of human resources that will be needed to achieve the defined goals.

Techniques in Adressing Issues Common to HR

TECHNIQUES IN ADRESSING ISSUES COMMON TO HR
The issues of human resource management may vary somewhat from one setting to the next, but there is a core group of issues that are likely to apply in just about every type and size of business.
Issues such as dealing with changes in operating procedures, employee turnover, balancing the need to compensate employees fairly with the need to keep the organization financially solvent, and even the creation and structure of ongoing employee training processes are likely to be part of the human resources issues that require ongoing attention and refining. Without taking the time to identify and deal with the issues of human resource management, the potential of a organization to thrive is greatly reduced.

Many of the issues of human resource management focus on the employees associated with the organization.
